City Council approves 9th edition of the Affordable Rent Subsidy
The 9th edition - with effect from January 2026 - sets the minimum overall household income for access at 6,000 euros. In addition to this specific requirement, the other rules laid down in the Municipal Regulation on the Right to Housing will apply.
In addition to families from Lisbon, displaced professionals such as teachers, police officers and health professionals, "who perform absolutely fundamental functions in our city and who unfortunately struggle to access housing in our city", can also apply, underlines the president of CML, Carlos Moedas.
Faced with the "inflation of rents, due to the increase in demand and decrease in supply", the population has "increasing difficulty in accessing and maintaining housing, making this one of the biggest current problems and one that is difficult to solve", points out the proposal approved today by the municipal executive.
In order to "combat these asymmetries", the municipality of Lisbon promotes the payment of a monthly rent subsidy to households that have a private rented home in Lisbon, "if the current rent of the home is not affordable in relation to their monthly disposable income", establishes this municipal rental support program.
