Government extends rural fire risk alert

In view of the forecast of a "significant increase in the risk of rural fires", the government has extended the "Alert Situation" in mainland Portugal between 1pm on September 15 and 11:59pm on September 19.

To this end, the following exceptional measures have been taken:

  • "Prohibition of access, circulation and permanence within the forest areas previously defined in the Municipal Plans for the Defense of the Forest Against Fires, as well as on forest paths, rural paths and other roads that cross them;
  • A ban on burning and the burning of farm leftovers, as well as the suspension of any authorizations that have been issued;
  • A ban on carrying out work in forest areas using any type of machinery, with the exception of work associated with fighting rural fires;
  • Prohibition on carrying out work in other rural areas using motorized brush cutters with metal blades or discs, brush cutters, shredders and machines with blades or front shovels;
  • A ban on the use of fireworks or other pyrotechnic devices, regardless of how they burn, as well as the suspension of any permits that have been issued.
