Municipal space helps recently homeless people

The Municipal Prevention and Autonomy Unit, inaugurated today, provides a rapid response, with psychosocial support, food, hygiene and laundry, for people who have been living on the streets for a short period of time.

The space was inaugurated on July 17, in Bairro Quinta do Ourives, in Beato, and can support 28 people who have been homeless for less than a month, helping them to regain their autonomy and avoid entering the circuit of prolonged responses to homelessness.

"This response is exactly for people who have never been in this situation before but, due to economic conditions, are falling into this situation of homelessness at this point in their lives," said Carlos Moedas, Mayor of Lisbon.

The Municipal Prevention and Autonomy Unit, managed by the Crescer Association, is a pilot project of the municipality, with an investment of €330,000, and is part of the Municipal Plan for Homeless People 2024-2030, approved in May by the Municipal Assembly.
