New Urban Art Murals celebrate 5 decades of freedom
Between August 20 and September 10, Lisbon residents can follow the creation of the 5 murals. The work has already begun and can be seen in different areas of the city.
António Alves, a muralist during the Revolutionary Process in Progress (PREC), began working on walls in the 1970s and 1980s as a discursive practice of resistance and counter-power, an activity he continues today. The artist's intervention will take place in Calçada dos Mestres/Av. Calouste Gulbenkian - Parque Canino, from August 22 to 31, in an area of 180 m2.
Youth One, born in the midst of the April Revolution, is one of the pioneers of graffiti in Portugal in the 90s. His intervention takes place from August 20 to 30 in Rua B ao Bairro da Liberdade, nº 1, with 80 m2.
Representing the 2000s, +MaisMenos- (Miguel Januário), known for integrating different artistic genres, will intervene on Avenida Gago Coutinho, no. 3, from August 20 to 24, in an area of 180 m2.
Kruella D'Enfer, a visual artist and illustrator who came to prominence in the 2010s and who has promoted the inclusion of women in urban art. The artist will create her mural at Teatro Taborda, Rua Costa do Castelo, nº75, from August 27 to September 3, also occupying 180 m2.
Arisca, a mural painting and illustration artist, represents the new female generation in urban art in the 2020s. Her intervention will take place in Santa Apolónia at Rua dos Caminhos de Ferro, nº58, between August 26 and September 2, in a space of 80 m2.
The initiative will conclude with a conversation open to the public between the five artists, which will take place at Teatro Taborda on September 18 at 6pm.
