PGDL tunneling machine already in Beato

Having finished digging the tunnel between Campolide and Santa Apolónia, H2Oli is now in Beato. At the beginning of next year, construction will begin on the second tunnel in Lisbon's General Drainage Plan (PGDL), between Chelas and Beato.

The opening of the second tunnel, about 1 km long, will allow the water collected between Chelas and Beato to be captured. The tunnels, both with an internal diameter of 5.5 m, run deep, most of the way below the city's buildings and existing infrastructure.

Advancing about 10 m per day, the H2Oli tunneling machine is able to place 3,300 rings and 19,000 staves: each ring consists of 6 staves and each stave weighs approximately 4 tons.
