The refurbishment of the Infante D. Henrique Primary School is complete

The work rehabilitated the two buildings and refurbished the outdoor spaces, in an investment of around 4 million euros, with capacity for 314 students: 100 in the Junior School, 208 in the 1st cycle, and six in the Support Unit for Students with Multidisabilities.

The upgrading work includes new outdoor play areas, with a roof for the kindergarten, new sports equipment and informal play areas, installation of children's equipment, total renovation of the building's thermal and acoustic insulation system and new optimized air circulation solutions.

With the refurbishment, it was possible to "increase the number of activity rooms", include a new rest room and a medical office, while keeping the multipurpose room autonomous, "without increasing the building area". An elevator was also installed in the elementary school building, and a Snoezelen room was created as a dependency of the motor skills room, and a library included in the school library network.

"Those who are here can feel very proud of the renovation, almost a new construction, of this school," said the Mayor of Lisbon (CML) at the inauguration ceremony.

The investment in this school, of around 4 million euros, is part of CML's 85 million euro investment plan in the area of education, he added, through a loan application approved this year, to continue the refurbishment of 61 schools transferred to the municipality under the decentralization of competences, and the construction of nurseries.

As part of the Fernando Pessoa school grouping, E.B. Infante Dom Henrique, in Rua Padre Joaquim Alves Correia, in the parish of Parque das Nações, is more than 40 years old and "although it was built at the beginning of the 21st century, it didn't meet current thermal, acoustic and safety requirements".
