Tourism challenges debated in Lisbon
Part of the CNN Summit and held as part of the Lisbon Tourism Exchange (BTL), the session "Tourism, Safety and Urban Hygiene" focused on the challenges and opportunities of tourism in cities.
In a city with high tourist demand, Carlos Moedas, the mayor of Lisbon, stressed the need to maintain a balance between Lisbon's attractiveness as a destination and the quality of life of Lisbon residents, defending a tourism model with a return for the city and for those who live and work there.
"Tourism only makes sense when it improves life in the city," said the mayor, stressing the importance of ensuring that the benefits of tourism are reflected in the daily lives of Lisbon residents.
"A city like Lisbon, if it didn't have tourism, would be a poorer city," added Carlos Moedas, highlighting tourism's contribution to investment in essential areas such as urban hygiene, safety, public space and culture.
Lisbon's participation in the CNN Summit took place in parallel with the city's presence at BTL, where this vision of tourism with a return for Lisboners is also highlighted on the Lisbon stand .
