Camões, Symphonic Epic

ULisboa Alumni Christmas Concert

This concert, already a milestone in the University of Lisbon Academic Orchestra's season, celebrates the 500th anniversary of the birth of Luís Vaz de Camões, a major figure in Portuguese literature. The program invites the audience to embark on a journey inspired by his epic "Os Lusíadas".

With the participation of the Teatro Académico da Universidade de Lisboa, the words and voices of Camões take on body and emotion, leading us "through seas never sailed before", through stanzas and songs that serve as a portal to some of the most epic and luminous works in the Western symphonic repertoire.

The event will also be charitable through the Alumni Solidarity Scholarships.

Program:

  • "The Sea and Sinbad's Ship" from Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade
  • "Seascape" from The Sea by Frank Bridge
  • "Cantar de Amigo" from Medieval Suite by Frederico de Freitas
  • "The Ship Breaks Against a Cliff Surmounted by a Bronze Horseman" from Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade
  • "Mars, Venus and Jupiter" from The Planets by Gustav Holst

Participation: free of charge, upon presentation of an invitation (two per person).

  • The invitation can be picked up at the ULisboa Stores in the Rectory and the Kaleidoscope, from December 3 to 12, subject to availability.
