Cinalfama Lisbon Film Festival

LIFF once again celebrates the Alfama neighborhood and independent cinema

In its 4th edition, the festival maintains its community, international and experimental vocation, promoting a space where cinema, territory and memory meet.

With the aim of highlighting unconventional forms of cinematographic creation and encouraging the active participation of different generations, the program includes works that challenge the limits of cinematographic language.

Portuguese cinema is represented with a diversity of voices, styles and concerns. Highlights include When We Were Free, by Stella Mosso Corrá and Madalena Costa, in which five prisoners recite poetry while time passes; Another Island, by Eduardo Saraiva Pereira, about the Cape Verdean community in the Amílcar Cabral neighborhood in Sines; and A Waltz on the Moon, by Francisco de Assis Parcerias, an intimate portrait of mourning and longing.

This year, the festival is also hosting a sample of the Minuto Lumière project, a pedagogical device that proposes cinema as a gesture of attention, listening and discovery.

"This festival is a meeting between artists, residents and the public, where cinema becomes a bridge for us to reflect on identity, territory and the social transformations that surround us." (João Gomes, Festival Director)
