Here! 150 years of Zés Povinhos

The Bordalo Pinheiro Museum is marking the 150th anniversary of Zé Povinho with an exhibition that brings together around 400 representations of the iconic figure created by Bordalo, including original drawings and contemporary interpretations.

The exhibition "Toma! 150 anos de Zé Povinho", curated by Jorge Silva and João Alpuim Botelho, celebrates one of the most striking figures in Portuguese popular culture. Along a route that spans a century and a half, visitors can discover different representations of Zé Povinho.

Zé Povinho was created by Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro on June 12, 1875, in his newspaper "A Lanterna Mágica", and today, 150 years after his birth, Zé is still as present in our daily lives as he was then.
