Latin American Film Festival

Latin American cinema is one of the most pulsating and inventive voices in world cinema today

Between geographies, memories and social urgencies, the 16th Latin American Film Festival (MCAL) invites you to dive into a territory where cinema is resistance, poetry and reinvention.

The program opens with "Un Poeta" (A Poet), by Colombian director Julián Gómez, a film that reaffirms the strength of a cinematography that, in recent years, has gained a prominent place at the Cannes, Venice and San Sebastián film festivals. The filmmaker continues the tradition of a cinema that seeks poetry in everyday life and hope in ruins.

The Peruvian film "Las Reinas", by Lucía Gutiérrez, one of the most promising voices of Peru's new cinema, closes MCAL. The film takes a contemporary look at the role of women, social hierarchies and the reinvention of peripheral identities.

Between the first and the last film, this exhibition is a journey: from north to south, from the intimate to the collective, from the marked past to the construction of a future that insists on being born.

It's an opportunity to see recent works that hardly ever make it to commercial cinemas, a lively and diverse panorama of the most exciting and transformative work being made in Latin America today.
