AGEO project wins RegioStars 2025 award

Lisbon was awarded the RegioStars 2025 prize in the "Green Europe" category by the European Commission for the AGEO - Atlantic Platform for Geological Risk Management project. The double distinction - from the public and the competition jury - recognizes the project's contribution to a more sustainable and resilient Europe.

The AGEO project, led by the Instituto Superior Técnico, in partnership with Lisbon City Council (CML), brings together scientists, local communities and public authorities from various countries in the Atlantic region, and aims to empower citizens to prevent and monitor geological risks, promoting their active involvement in protecting communities and the territory.

Through the ReSist Project team, which is part of CML's Urban Planning Department, the Lisbon Multi-Risk Citizen Observatory was created, as well as various communication and risk awareness actions, especially aimed at the population.

AGEO has also developed a digital platform and a mobile application that allow citizens to report risk situations, such as cracks in buildings, landslides, signs of erosion or other potentially dangerous occurrences. Alerts are forwarded to the relevant authorities, ensuring a rapid and effective response, while the information is recorded for future analysis and prevention.

This distinction recognizes the work of the ReSist Program team, developed in collaboration with the Instituto Superior Técnico, and reaffirms the municipality's commitment to making Lisbon a safer, more resilient city, prepared for future challenges.
