AllonBoard project kicks off in Lisbon with partners from seven countries

Lisbon City Council has started the European project AllonBoard: The Road to Democracy, an initiative co-funded by the European Union's Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values program, with the aim of strengthening the civic and democratic participation of young people and migrants in 74 municipalities in seven countries.

The project - with a total cost of €453,265 - runs from January 2026 to December 2027 and involves entities from Portugal, Italy, Croatia, Slovakia, Spain, Germany and Sweden. The kick-off session took place in Lisbon on March 26 and 27, bringing together the consortium's nine partners.

Aimed at young people between the ages of 18 and 30, and people with a migratory background, AllonBoard aims to promote active integration into local and European democratic processes through digital tools and participatory methodologies. Among the initiatives planned are the development of platforms such as the Civic Digital Twin, the AI Civic Foresight Lab and the Virtual Policy Lab, as well as civic mentoring programs, dialogue forums, ahackathon and an intercultural festival.

The project plans to involve at least 1,500 participants, train more than 130 civic mentors and create a European Civic Charter. It also includes a storytelling laboratory with the production of digital content by migrant participants.

"Democracy is built together," says the initiative, stressing the importance of inclusive participation regardless of origin or generation.
