Artificial Intelligence in focus at the 10th edition of the Web Summit
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is in the spotlight at another edition of Web Summit Lisbon, with sessions dedicated to robotics, the digital economy, human resources and sustainability. Portugal is present with 178 startups, selected through the Road 2 Web Summit program, promoted by Unicorn Factory Lisboa and Startup Portugal.
"It was here, at the Web Summit in 2022, that we launched Unicorn Factory Lisboa. At the time we had very little and today we have 16 unicorns" -(startups valued at more than a billion dollars, which are not yet listed on the stock exchange) - based in Lisbon, said Carlos Moedas, mayor of Lisbon.
"We have 82 technology companies that have come to Lisbon and made a difference. These companies have created more than 16,000 jobs," added Carlos Moedas at the opening session. Next Thursday, he revealed, "we will launch the 17th startup on the Web Summitstage".
For the mayor, "the balance between economic growth and social cohesion is important. There are two ingredients that define a successful city: guaranteeing social justice, so that Lisbon is more than just the capital of innovation, and affirming the city as the capital of culture."
"Ten years ago, all this began as a dream, and today the Web Summit is the world's biggest stage for technology and innovation. At the time, we already felt that the world was changing rapidly, but nothing compared to the speed at which it changes today," said Paddy Cosgrave, founder of the technology summit.
Guaranteed to be held in Lisbon until 2028, the Web Summit positions the Portuguese capital as an international platform for talent, creativity and technology.
