"Calçada Artística de Lisboa": routes to get to know and appreciate the sidewalk

Authored by António Miranda, the book "Calçada Artística de Lisboa" offers five routes for getting to know and appreciate the sidewalk and, at the same time, pays tribute to the artists who preserve one of Lisbon's symbols. The "Art and Know-How of the Portuguese Pavement" has been included in the National Inventory of Cultural Heritage since 2021.

At the presentation of the book at the Lisbon Tourism Association on July 24, Carlos Moedas highlighted the "unique" character of Lisbon's Calçada Artística, represented in this book: "Lisbon has something unique, which is the sidewalk. I think it's unique, that this book represents this history, the history of these visions".

Sidewalk art "represents the best we have. And that best is attention to detail, which is part of our identity. And the sidewalk is exactly that. It's attention to the smallest detail," he added.

"The work they're doing to make the sidewalk a world heritage site has my personal support," assured the mayor of Lisbon, alluding to the work carried out by the Portuguese Pavement Association, in the presence of the secretary-general, António Prôa, and the president and councillor Filipa Roseta.

The route now being presented "was created to make known and publicize the art of Portuguese artistic sidewalk and part of the rich heritage that exists in the city where it was born and developed, and which preserves and continues to produce a number of exceptional examples".
