Carris/TML agreement brings municipalities in the Lisbon region closer together

The protocol signed today between Carris and Transportes Metropolitanos de Lisboa (TML) - marking seven years of the Navegante pass - aims to simplify the lives of citizens and bring the 18 municipalities that make up the Lisbon Metropolitan Area closer together.

"Efficiency gains, cost rationalization, optimized management and use of infrastructures and the enhancement of synergies" are the main objectives of the agreement, which covers areas such as: data and information systems; customer service; management and operational systems; information media; spaces and infrastructures; network planning and development, and employee training.

The protocol - signed today at the Carris Museum in Santo Amaro, during the Navegante Days - symbolizes a "concrete step" towards an integrated mobility network, where the different operators work as "a single system at the service of people". The link between TML and Carris is "much more than a technical agreement, it's a political statement, a strategic choice and a commitment to a more cohesive, efficient and accessible metropolitan area", said Carlos Moedas, president of the Metropolitan Council and Lisbon City Council.

"We need to think about mobility as it really is: metropolitan, integrated, shared," he added. "People on the street don't know if it's Carris or Carris Metropolitana. They want mobility".

The optimization of infrastructures, systems and skills, he stressed, makes it possible to "build a public service that is more robust, more coherent and closer to those who depend on it every day. And this is where efficiency takes on its true meaning in people's lives: less time waiting, better information, greater reliability, more trust."

Investment will continue in the Metropolitan Area, but also in Lisbon, with Carris, "in mobility that works on the climate transition, that is more sustainable, more intelligent, but also more responsible", Carlos Moedas assured.
