Emergency meeting points signposted in Lisbon

Lisbon City Council has started putting up signs for the city's Emergency Meeting Points. In the event of serious accidents or catastrophes, the population should go to these spaces, which are signposted in Lisbon's Municipal Civil Protection Emergency Plan.

The first Emergency Meeting Points have been set up in Alameda da Universidade, Campo Grande and Alameda D. Afonso Henriques, as part of a project that will continue over the next few weeks.

The purpose of the Emergency Meeting Points is to guarantee the safety of the population by providing a temporary place to stay until the arrival of civil protection agents (police, firefighters, INEM, among others). In these places, in addition to the assistance provided, rescue operations are coordinated. The meeting points are identified as "safe spaces" where the population should go in the event of a serious accident or disaster, such as earthquakes, tsunamis, air or rail accidents, fires or floods.

The definition of the 86 emergency points resulted from a risk analysis, taking into account criteria such as: exposure to natural and technological risks; reception capacity; accessibility; the state of conservation of the surrounding buildings and other characteristics of the surrounding area.

With this measure, the municipality reinforces the city's preparedness and resilience, ensuring that Lisbon has places ready to support the population in emergency situations.
