Future of books and libraries up for debate
"Municipal Public Libraries: Spaces for Information, Discovery and Learning" was one of the topics up for debate, with the participation of Edite Guimarães, from the Lisbon Library Network (BLX).
"Lisbon has kept up with library trends at European level, where libraries are spaces to be, based on access to information, knowledge and the role of promoting reading," said the head of the BLX network.
The city has a network of 17 libraries and an itinerant library, which promote access to reading, citizenship and inclusion and the preservation of memory and heritage. They are renowned for their diverse offer and for lending books free of charge to their members, playing a fundamental role in democratizing access to culture and knowledge, and in fostering creativity.
The municipal library network also offers monthly programs with workshops, meetings, conferences, exhibitions, music and theater sessions, among other events of public interest.
Book 2.0" took place on September 5 and 6 at the Museu do Oriente, organized by the Portuguese Association of Publishers and Booksellers, with the support of Lisbon City Council.
