Head of State of Mauritius receives Key of Honor of the City

On an official visit to Portugal, the President of Mauritius, Prithvirajsing Roopun, was received at the Lisbon City Hall and given the city's Key of Honor.

At the reception for Prithvirajsing Roopun, in the Salão Nobre of the Paços do Concelho, Carlos Moedas highlighted the "history we share" since, in 1528, the Portuguese navigator, Diogo Rodrigues, discovered and named several islands to the east of Madagascar, including Rodrigues Island.

His "legacy can still be found in the name of one of his islands", added the Mayor of Lisbon.

But "it's not just history that we share, and we know that Mauritius is one of the most diverse societies in the world," he added, and that is
what we want Portugal to be, Lisbon is that, a society where diversity means unity and not diversity".

The Lisbon Key of Honour distinguishes national or foreign personalities, institutions or organizations that - due to their prestige, position, action or relationship with Lisbon - are considered worthy of this distinction.
