"Jacques Delors Agora" brings together European university students in Lisbon

From July 1 to 4, the "Jacques Delors Agora" meeting brings together around 150 university students from various countries in Lisbon to exchange ideas on the challenges and political priorities for the European Union over the next five years.

On the second day, at the Capitólio, Carlos Moedas, mayor of Lisbon (CML), took part in a debate with economist Laurence Boone on "how to stimulate competitiveness and growth in the European Union".

"Lisbon is and will be the city of openness and diversity," said the mayor. Around "20% of the people who live in Lisbon were not born here, they are not Portuguese, they come from all over the world to live in this city", he stressed. The "beauty of Lisbon, and what we have created in terms of startups, scale, technology and innovation, comes precisely from this diversity of the city".

In Lisbon, the "Study in Lisbon" project has developed a partnership with all the city's entities interested in promoting, disseminating and consolidating the city's intellectual and scientific potential.

"What I think I can do for Europe, not what Europe can do for me," was the challenge left at the end of the session, which was also attended by Elisa Ferreira (European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms).

The Lisbon edition of "Jacques Delors Ágora" has the support of the Lisbon City Council and is taking place in various locations in the city: the Capitólio (Parque Mayer), the Assembly of the Republic, the European Maritime Safety Agency and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
