Lisbon City Council honors the cultural merit of António Manuel de Moraes
The "indefatigable historian", in the words of Carlos Moedas, "seems to have been born precisely to write history and often the history that has not yet been told".
At the ceremony to award the medal, in Lisbon's Paços do Concelho, the Mayor of Lisbon recalled his latest work on the popular marches, "which will be published, I promise you, quickly by the Lisbon City Council", to whom António Manuel de Moraes ceded the copyright.
The work, revealed Carlos Moedas, presents 4,000 pages on the history of our city "as we've never been told before", justifying why "the marches should be intangible cultural heritage of humanity, with your help, with your capacity".
Historian and writer António Manuel Nunes da Cunha de Moraes was born in Torres Vedras on January 9, 1947.
He graduated in law in 1976 and was one of the first lawyers to provide legal support to the association that later became the UGT (General Workers' Union).
A multifaceted writer, lecturer and olisipographer, his works illustrate Lisbon and shed light on its history in the various areas he has covered, both through the publication of books and articles in the magazines he has collaborated on, including Lisbon's Cultural Agenda.
The Municipal Medal of Merit of the City of Lisbon aims to "distinguish natural or legal persons, national or foreign, whose acts result in notable benefits for the city of Lisbon, improvement in the living conditions of its population, development or diffusion of its art, dissemination or deepening of its history, or others of notable importance that justify this recognition".
