Lisbon hosts last European leg of COP30 Bike Ride

The Lisbon stage brought together "adventurers from all over the world" on a bicycle and sailing trip that will end in Belém, Brazil. The initiative, supported by Lisbon City Council, highlights the central role of active mobility in reducing emissions and improving quality of life.

The COP30 Bike Ride began on May 10 in Azerbaijan and will continue until Belém, Brazil, where the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference will take place between November 10 and 21. The promoters, says the organization, will present ten measures to "leverage active mobility for climate protection".

In Lisbon, one of the national municipalities involved in the project - which have committed to adopting at least three of these measures by 2030 - some have already been adopted, namely:

  • reducing car traffic and limiting speed, through the Neighborhoods 30 and Zones 30 programs;
  • improving the cycling network;
  • increasing exclusive areas for cycling and walking by 2030, near schools, public transport hubs, shops and green areas;
  • developing school mobility projects such as the Municipal Bicycle Train Program and Mobility Schools.

COP 30 is the United Nations' largest global event for discussion and negotiations on climate change.
