Lisbon listens to civil society on Humberto Delgado Airport expansion
The city council agrees with limiting the number of flights, said Carlos Moedas, who also defended "a balance with tourism and economic activity".
"We are all fighting for a better quality of life for Lisbon residents, we are fighting for pollution in Lisbon to decrease," said the mayor. For the mayor, the "good news" is that "Lisbon's new airport won't be in the city center", alluding to the site of the future "Luis de Camões" airport, at the Alcochete Shooting Range.
Last year, the city recorded an "average movement time of 2 minutes and 21 seconds, considering 24 hours of operation", according to the data presented by Zero. Lisbon, the association added, "is the most populated airport in Europe within a 5 km radius".
The defense of the health of Lisbon residents and the concern for their quality of life, with the limitation of the number of night flights, was unanimously defended by the invited entities of the political forces represented in CML: Liga para a Proteção da Natureza; Movimento "Morar em Lisboa"; ZERO; GEOTA; Plataforma Cívica Base Aérea 6 Não; Carlos Matias Ramos, former president of the Ordem dos Engenheiros; Associação "Aeroporto Fora Lisboa Melhora"; Associação de Residentes do Alto do Lumiar; Movimento "Lisboa Precisa";Associação de Moradores do Alto da Serafina; Centro de Estudos e Desenvolvimento Regional e Urbano.
