Lisbon mourns the death of Manuel Fernandes

Manuel José Tavares Fernandes was born in Sarilhos Pequenos, Moita, on June 5, 1951, and died on June 27, at the age of 73. Lisbon deeply regrets his death and sends its family and friends its heartfelt condolences.


Manuel Fernandes stood out as a player for Sporting Clube de Portugal, which he represented between 1975/76 and 1986/87.

A former footballer, coach and manager, he played over 400 games and scored over 250 goals, winning two national championships (1979/1980 and 1981/1982), two Portuguese Cups (1977/1978 and 1981/1982) and a Super Cup (1982).

In 2000/2001, he was head coach of the Lisbon club, winning the Super Cup.
