Lisbon Municipal Police to step up fight against counterfeiting

One hundred and twenty officers from the Lisbon Municipal Police will attend awareness-raising sessions on the importance of combating counterfeiting, as part of the "Authenticities" European cooperation project. Lisbon is the first city in Portugal to join this European network of cities committed to the fight against counterfeiting

The project, created by the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) and Lisbon City Council (CML), with the support of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), aims to alert society to the value of Industrial Property, as well as to the adverse effects of counterfeiting and the need to combat it.

In addition to causing economic damage to various entities, counterfeiting can have an impact on sectors such as road safety. The use of counterfeit parts in vehicles can increase the risk of mechanical failure and cause serious accidents.

In 2022, Lisbon was awarded the Authentic City label, a recognition that highlights the importance of preserving the authenticity and integrity of products and brands.
