Lisbon wins award for sustainability and innovation in public procurement
The award ceremony took place at the end of the first day of the Procura+ Conference, an event which, until March 14, at the Lisbon Congress Center, brings together international experts who will share best practices to make public procurement ecological, innovative, circular and socially responsible.
"In Lisbon, we are turning the idea of sustainability into reality. And we're doing it by setting an example," says Carlos Moedas.
We are, said the Mayor of Lisbon, "very close to achieving 100% sustainable purchasing" in the municipality. "This award is also recognition of the commitment of all the workers and managers who, on a daily basis, strive to do more and better, towards a new paradigm in public procurement," adds Carlos Moedas.
Lisbon City Council is one of the ten largest public purchasers in the country and was the first Portuguese organization (public and private) to implement a sustainable purchasing system in accordance with ISO 20400 (international standard for guidance on sustainable public purchasing).
Lisbon was a finalist with Barcelona and Lithuania for the award in the Public Procurement Initiative category.
