Lumiar and Santa Clara host decentralized meeting

In yet another decentralized public meeting, the municipal executive went to Lumiar Secondary School to listen to the residents of the parishes of Lumiar and Santa Clara and respond to local problems.

The public lighting in Rua Frederico de Brito will be the subject of an intervention that involves the installation of a 4m lamp, which is awaiting connection from E-REDES. In the immediate future, the council will install a temporary floodlight until permanent lighting is installed, said Filipa Roseta, councillor for Housing and Local Development, Maintenance and Municipal Works.

By the end of the summer, two more buildings in the old Bairro da Cruz Vermelha should be demolished, and the residents will be rehoused in 130 new homes. The remaining buildings, said Filipa Roseta, have some resident families, whom the council is constantly monitoring in the rehousing process. Each time a building is vacated, "we will demolish it", she guaranteed. The assisted consumption van on site, and the insecurity sometimes associated with it, was another issue raised by a resident. "We have a new place for the van", with the "right conditions", already authorized by the PSP, said the councillor for Human and Social Rights, Sofia Athayde, recalling the collaboration of the Lumiar Parish Council in identifying the space.

Rua Glicínia Quartim and Rua Fernando Gusmão are places that will be improved, namely by lowering the sidewalks, new crosswalks and entrance ramps at the street stops, to create an accessible route. In Rua José Viana, said Carlos Moedas, traffic calming measures are already being developed, which could include the adoption of a one-way street, added the CML president, in response to mobility difficulties in the area, identified by a representative of the Ameixoeira/Galinheiras Community Group.

At the school that hosted this meeting, there has been a community of volunteer gardeners for the urban vegetable garden project in the school environment for 10 years, a project of the Parents' Association, which today received assurances from Carlos Moedas that "the project will continue" and will not be affected by the impact of the works that are due to take place at the school.

Also in Lumiar, the contract for intervention in the West Park is being launched, which will improve conditions and repair the current deficiencies, despite the "occasional interventions" that have taken place, said Ângelo Pereira, councillor for Green Structure. Noise was another concern raised by residents in the area. In order to adopt measures to reduce the noise impact caused by the North South Axis, the council will insist on this with Infraestruturas de Portugal, Carlos Moedas said.

Until 2027, Carris will invest around 165 million euros in renewing its fleet, revealed the mayor. The measure, along with the plans for a new route between the Military College and Lumiar, and the AMARELO school mobility program, which is already in Santa Clara and will soon reach Lumiar, will improve the public transport service in the city, particularly in the newer areas of Lumiar.

Although some of the problems identified today have already been resolved by the municipal services, the council has guaranteed that it will follow up on the problems and suggestions presented, relating to the maintenance of green spaces, safety in public spaces, urban hygiene, parking, noise, pedestrian accessibility and public lighting.

The final speeches were made by the presidents of Lumiar parish councils, Ricardo Mexia, and Santa Clara parish council, Graça Ferreira, as well as Lisbon City Council councillors.
