Municipal nursery school network has more than 1,300 vacancies
In 2025, three new crèches were opened, adding 210 places to the network. In previous years, the program had already allowed for the creation of hundreds of places, consolidating a response that seeks to keep up with the needs of the population.
The aim, said Miguel Soares, from Lisbon City Council, is to "support families, encourage the birth rate and combat the ageing of the city", stressing that investment in children is a municipal priority.
As part of this program, the first B.a.Bá. Daycare Meeting was held today in the municipality's Social Services Auditorium, bringing together professionals from the network to discuss early childhood development and care. The partner organizations, which ensure the day-to-day running of the crèches, added Miguel Soares, "are our arms in the area of childhood".
The initiative, created to strengthen early childhood care, is based on the construction and refurbishment of municipal facilities, which are managed by private social solidarity institutions, guaranteeing a diversified offer that is close to families.
