President of Slovakia honored with the City's Key of Honor
The proposal to award the Key to the City, approved at the city council meeting on November 19, highlighted the "historical, cultural, political and diplomatic affinities" between Portugal and Slovakia, as well as the "excellent institutional relations" between Lisbon, Bratislava and other Slovak cities, with emphasis on joint participation in international organizations and city networks, such as Eurocities, the Council of European Municipalities and Regions, and United Cities and Local Governments, among others.
At this afternoon's reception in the Salão Nobre of the Paços do Concelho, the Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, shared with the Slovak Head of State the strategy of "social protection" and underlined the municipality's "priority" in the area of technological innovation: "If we look around us, Europe is really falling behind".
Artificial Intelligence - dubbed "the unstoppable revolution" by Peter Pellegrini - demands a responsible approach to technology, added Carlos Moedas. In Europe, "we need to catch up quickly. And that's why here in Lisbon we've focused on putting innovation at the forefront."
The Key of Honour of the City distinguishes national or foreign personalities, institutions or organizations that - due to their prestige, position, action or relationship with Lisbon - are considered worthy of this distinction.
