Rua D. José de Bragança will have more trees and pedestrian area

The redevelopment project for Rua D. José de Bragança, in Beato, was presented on July 24 at a public session. The municipality's investment is 700,000 euros and the work should be finished by May 2025.

The main intervention proposals include increasing the pedestrian area to around 2,000m2 and 34 trees, around three times the current number.

Crosswalks with tactile flooring and zero bounce, wider raised sidewalks with an accessible, non-slip path, a coexistence zone and an accessible, non-slip path between crosswalks are some of the measures designed to improve the movement of people.

In terms of street furniture, the proposal includes garden benches, a kiosk and a drinking fountain, as well as drainage beds. The existing telecommunications cabinet will be moved to improve pedestrian circulation, and infrastructure will be created to relocate the cables on the façades.

The work is part of the "There's life in my neighborhood" program, and aims to apply the concept of the "15-minute city in Lisbon", promoting pedestrian movements and providing "essential urban functions within walking distance": Commerce, Green spaces, Education, Sport, Culture, Health and social support".
