Activities in Monsanto
At Monsanto Forest Park we have a program of activities designed for all ages.
In March, accept the Monsanto Forest Park's invitation and come and enjoy, among other things, a walk during Earth Hour, watch an open-air dance show or let yourself be embraced by the "Forest Baths".
Father's Day is also being celebrated this month, and for this we have created a natural framing workshop, where creativity and biodiversity come together to create very special moments.
Visit us, feel and observe this privileged and enriching forest site that the city offers you and enjoy some family time.

Monsanto - 9 Decades of the Forest Park
Through photographs, documents and testimonies, it reveals how one man's vision and collective effort transformed a mountain range devoid of vegetation into an emblematic forest park.
More than a chronology, this exhibition invites reflection on the past, celebrates the present and inspires the construction of Monsanto's future. Visitors will be able to explore never-before-seen images of the mountains before planting, understand the park's social and environmental impact and hear stories from those who live, work or visit the area.
The exhibition is an invitation to discover the secrets and living memory of the city's green lung.
The activity is part of the educational offer to schools, including guided tours.

Discovering wild orchids and other bulbs
Discover a more delicate and surprising side of Monsanto Forest Park through this exhibition dedicated to wild orchids and other bulbous plants that bloom discreetly throughout the year.
Between unique shapes, subtle colors and ingenious adaptation strategies, this exhibition invites you to get to know species that often go unnoticed in everyday life, but which are true treasures of the Park's biodiversity.
Orchids, symbols of sophistication and ecological balance, are shown here as excellent indicators of the quality of natural habitats, while bulbs tell us stories of resistance, natural cycles and rebirth.
An opportunity to learn to observe more carefully, understand the importance of conserving these habitats and appreciate the botanical wealth that makes Monsanto a living, diverse and constantly changing space.
The sky is also a territory
Taking Monsanto Forest Park as the main reference and symbol of Lisbon City Council's environmental policy, the exhibition presents images captured by Mário Gomes, a civil engineer and photographer, resulting from a continuous work of observation and photographic recording, where artistic sensibility, technical knowledge and commitment to nature meet.

Forest baths
An invitation to participants to connect with nature through the senses - observing, listening and feeling what the Monsanto Forest Park has to offer.
Let yourself be enveloped by the tranquillity of the space and the energy of its biodiversity. A perfect activity for relaxing and renewing inner balance.

Discover the Biodiversity Space in Monsanto
Guided tour of the Biodiversity Space, a fenced-off area of the Monsanto Forest Park specially dedicated to nature conservation.
This activity shows the natural habitats and the diversity of species found there, promoting an educational experience and direct contact with Lisbon's natural heritage.

Information session on encouraging the cultivation of aromatic herbs
In the heart of the forest that was born out of the Serra de Monsanto afforestation project in the last century, there are cypress trees, cork oaks, holm oaks and various aromatic plants.
In this session we'll explore the history of aromatic plants, learn simple techniques for growing them in small spaces and discover ways to care for and preserve them.
These plants can transform any meal and perfume your home! At the end, each participant will receive a planting kit to start their own mini-garden at home straight away.

Monsanto: Where History Comes to Life
A visit to the exhibition followed by a guided tour.
The journey begins at the exhibition "9 Decades of the Monsanto Forest Park", where you will discover how a mountain range almost devoid of trees has been transformed over the last century into one of the most important urban parks in the country. Photographs, stories and memories reveal the human effort, vision and care that gave rise to the Monsanto we know today.
Next, it's time to leave the exhibition and enter the Park itself, in a fenced-off area of 16ha: the Biodiversity Space, where everyone is invited to walk along trails surrounded by vegetation, mosses and wildlife, in direct contact with the natural wealth that inhabits this territory today. Along the way, you'll be introduced to the fauna and flora, the processes of nature and the importance of conservation, sustainability and respect for ecosystems. Not forgetting the lake and the observation tower.
An experience designed to get to know, feel and value Monsanto, linking the past to the present and inspiring a more conscious and sustainable future.

Art Show: Innominãtu - An Experience in the Forest
Innominātu is a show that combines the body, movement, visual arts and natural elements. Through the figure of the shaman-performer, the body becomes a mediator between the human and the more-than-human, exploring the profound relationship between nature, consciousness and matter.
In a poetic and site-specific experience, the creation invites the public to slow down, listen and rediscover a primordial link with life and the surrounding landscape.

Father's Day workshop
Celebrate Father's Day creatively and in contact with nature.
In this activity, participants will create decorative frames using natural elements such as leaves, flowers and branches, to give away or keep as a souvenir. A fun and artistic experience that combines creativity, nature and shared family moments, celebrating the special bond between fathers and children.

Monte Santo, a trip to Monsanto Forest Park
Start the experience with a guided tour of the exhibition "9 Decades of Monsanto Forest Park", where you'll discover how a mountain range almost devoid of trees has been transformed over almost a century into one of Lisbon's most important green spaces.
Then watch the film "Monte Santo", which takes us on a journey through the creation, evolution and history of the Park, highlighting its biodiversity, conservation efforts and the link between nature and the city, combining history, heritage and nature.

LxCRAS Open Day
Guided tour by technicians from LxCRAS - Centro de Recuperação de Animais Silvestres (Wild Animal Recovery Center), where wild animals recover to return to the wild. The center is observed from a suitable distance to ensure the well-being of the animals in recovery.

The Water Route
This is a 7.5km guided trail that runs mostly through the Monsanto forest, inviting you to discover its biodiversity, its natural environments and the essential role that this green space plays in the city.
Along the trail, the path crosses the vents of the Águas Livres Aqueduct, historical elements that recall the ancient relationship between the forest, water and the supply of the city of Lisbon.
A peaceful walk to observe nature, understand the evolution of the landscape and discover how history and forest intertwine in this unique territory.

Discovering Water - Visit to the Beirolas Water Factory and Bird Watching
An invitation to the community to visit the Beirolas Water Factory and discover the water's journey from treatment to its return to the natural environment.
The initiative also includes birdwatching in the surrounding riverside area, where water quality is essential for life and the balance of ecosystems.
An experience that combines knowledge, nature and environmental awareness, celebrating the importance of water for everyone.
