MONSTRA
The festival presents over 490 films in more than 120 screenings. Latvian animation, this year's guest country, is one of the most distinctive and innovative in Europe, characterized by a wide variety of techniques, strong artistic freedom and a predominance of auteur cinema. Latvian production is the highlight, with 70 films, including "Flow", winner of the Oscar in 2025. Competitions, retrospectives, masterclasses and exhibitions transform the city into a great festival of animation for all audiences.
The year 2000 brought MONSTRA to the city of Lisbon, one of its first film festivals. It was born with the new century and brought a new way of approaching and dialoguing Animated Film with all the Arts. It was the first festival to provoke a meeting between creators, interactive and generative artistic languages and audiences, challenging new perspectives on a language that is as multidisciplinary as it is unknown.
