Baldaya Palace remains under the management of Benfica Parish Council

The new delegation of powers contract between Lisbon City Council and the Benfica Parish Council, for the management and maintenance of the "Baldaya Palace" in 2024 and 2025, was unanimously approved by the Municipal Assembly on July 9.

Proposal 343/CM/2024 - signed by the Mayor of Lisbon (CML), Carlos Moedas, and the Councillor for Housing, Filipa Roseta - also authorizes the transfer of two hundred and five thousand euros to the parish council in 2024 and 2025.

Since 2020, the document points out, biannual contracts have been signed for the delegation of powers to the parish of Benfica for the management and maintenance of the Palace, as well as the transfer of the necessary financial resources.

In the latest physical and financial execution report presented by the Benfica Parish Council, "192 cultural and innovation initiatives were held" in 2023, including "concerts, plays, rehearsals by local groups and schools, exhibitions and fairs", while the use of the library and the number of participants in the organized activities were also "significant".

The town hall and the council therefore consider it to be "in their mutual interest" that management should continue to be "exclusively carried out by the parish of Benfica, which is why they intend to sign a new delegation contract for the years 2024 and 2025", concludes the proposal.
