Casa do Jardim da Estrela celebrates a year of art, community and sustainability

Today, September 28, was the first anniversary of Casa do Jardim da Estrela, a cultural facility that is part of the municipal network "Um Teatro em Cada Bairro". The event featured a varied program with free admission, aimed at all audiences.

Casa do Jardim da Estrela was inaugurated on September 24, 2023 with the aim of promoting access to culture, artistic creation, environmental education, knowledge and training for sustainability. Located in Jardim da Estrela, this cultural center has played an important role in diversifying the city's cultural offer. The initiative is part of a strategic commitment by the Municipality of Lisbon in the areas of Culture and the Environment.

Carlos Moedas, mayor of Lisbon, highlighted the work done by the community and said that " A Theatre in Every Neighbourhood is the best expression of what we want for culture in Lisbon: a culture that values the identity and soul of Lisbon, close to the people of Lisbon and open to innovation." The project is currently in six parishes, where culture is brought closer to the neighborhoods and communities. The aim is to continue expanding the network to make culture even more accessible to everyone.

Casa do Jardim da Estrela offers services such as a library and a varied and inclusive cultural program, available free of charge to the community. During its first year of operation, the space welcomed around 30,000 people to almost 250 events, including workshops, shows, concerts, exhibitions and training sessions.

The first anniversary program included activities such as a botanical-poetic walk, yoga and meditation sessions, the show "Fantastic Animals" by André Murraças and a workshop on the impact of coffee on history. The celebration ended with a collaborative DJ set by Luís FMR and LAMIM, and musical performances by Trio de Madeiras MPMP and Batucadeiras das Olaias.
