Exercise FENIX 25 prepares for response to major earthquake
The Portuguese Army's initiative mobilizes "more than 300 operatives and 100 vehicles" and aims to "train the response capacity of the Integrated Military Emergency Support System to requests for support from Civil Protection".
The scenarios are taking place in various parts of the city. In Telheiras, search operations are being carried out in a simulated structure and an exercise on collapsed housing. In Belém, the Municipal Tsunami Warning and Alert System is tested, with the activation of a siren and awareness-raising actions on the waterfront. In Monsanto there are simulations of a collision between vehicles, a search in an open area and a wide-angle rescue.
Lisbon City Council is taking part through the Municipal Civil Protection Service, the Fire Brigade Regiment and the Municipal Police, integrating actions within the scope of prevention, rescue and security. Some operations involve only the teams deployed and are not accessible to the public.
