Lisbon's urban planning strategy presented at the Forum of Cities in Madrid
On June 18, Joana Almeida, Lisbon City Councillor, took part in the round table "Planning Ibero-American Cities for the 21st Century", organized by UCCI, which also included representatives from: Buenos Aires, Bogotá, S. Paulo and Santo Domingo. This session showcased the initiatives carried out by each city with regard to strategic planning and city management.
On this occasion, Joana Almeida presented the strategic urban planning programs and some emblematic projects, such as Vale de Santo António, Via Estruturante de Santa Clara, and the redevelopment of Bairro da Quinta do Ferro.
The following day, the councillor also took part in a panel on the "Regeneration of Neighborhoods for the Territorial and Social Balance of the City", addressing this issue through an integrated vision of social, economic and environmental aspects. The interventions carried out in some of the city's neighbourhoods are part of the"Há Vida no Meu Bairro" (There is Life in My Neighbourhood) program, which refers to a way of organizing cities, allowing all essential services to be within a 15-minute walk.
The aim of this program is for interventions in public spaces to promote the comfort and safety of routes, and for all essential urban functions to be present in neighborhoods: commerce, schools, health, green spaces, trade, sport and leisure. Interventions underway or soon to begin in Largo das Belas Artes, Praça das Novas Nações, Praça da Alegria, Avenida Santos Dumont, Estrada da Luz, Largo de São Sebastião and Praça do Martim Moniz were mentioned.
