Municipality receives renewed distinction for meeting payment deadlines

The "Member of the Punctual Payment Commitment" diploma, awarded by the Christian Association of Entrepreneurs and Managers (ACEGE), was presented to the Lisbon City Council (CML) on July 4, in recognition of the renewal of the commitment to "pay its suppliers on time".

Filipe Anacoreta Correia, vice-president of CML and Councillor for Finance, assured that CML was "committed" and "concerned to demonstrate that it has to pay on time".

"Nowadays, in the State, there is a grid that is imposed on public organizations to be concerned about paying on time. And
Lisbon City Council is one of the organizations that has joined this initiative," he said.

In Portugal, "82% of companies don't pay on time", stressed João Pedro Tavares, president of ACEGE, stressing his concern that we are "the penultimate worst country in Europe in terms of punctual payments".

The renewal of the award to the municipality, he said, "reflects the commitment" of the CML "to pay on time and, in this way, boost the economy, companies and the development of Lisbon and the country. These councils act as local banks for companies".

ACEGE's Punctual Payment Commitment program "defends that paying on time is an ethical obligation".
