Tourist tax on overnight stays rises to 4 euros

The new tax comes into force on September 1 and will be applied per overnight stay and per guest over the age of 13 staying in tourist resorts and local accommodation establishments, up to a limit of 7 overnight stays per stay.

The revenue will be "applied to projects, studies, equipment or infrastructures that have a direct or indirect impact on the promotion and quality of tourism in the city of Lisbon, with a view to sustainable, long-term growth".

Tourist resorts and local accommodation establishments are responsible for applying the municipal tourist tax to their guests and to cruise ship passengers disembarking in Lisbon.
