The Woods and the Word
Artist and psychoanalyst Katia Canton presents a universe where fantasy and human experience intertwine and fairy tales become territories of memory, desire and healing.
The urban garden becomes the imaginary forest of fairy tales, where the characters change forever. Paintings, drawings and tapestries become paths on a journey where pigments and pharmacological substances such as iodine, gentian violet and rifocin symbolize powers of care.
Between Portugal, the USA, Italy and Brazil, the artist uses colors and plants to establish narratives and build cultural bridges. Inspired by psychoanalysis, she uses chance and experimentation as learning, inviting the public to touch, observe and discover themselves. Characters such as princesses and Rapunzels reinvent themselves, facing fears and conquering power. Like Louise Bourgeois, here too art heals and integrates traumatic experiences. Healing, after all, is transforming experience into history, memory and a living image.
