On the edge
Julee is a visual artist based in Lisbon. Her practice explores processes of transfiguration of matter in dialog with themes such as permanence, disappearance and containment. Her work gives visibility to what has historically been relegated to the background - the banal, the domestic, the decaying - affirming it as a nucleus of presence and resistance. In her compositions, materials and forms reveal layers of the invisible and build a spirituality that inhabits the space between the intimate and the collective.
À Margem investigates the limit as a multiple condition: a space of edge, of nearness, of suspension, but also of exclusion and distance. The project is based on a wide-ranging exploration of matter, marked both by processes of wear and transformation and by symbolic powers, treating the margin as a territory where forces of nature, matter and society take center stage and meet in tension.

While You Rest You Carry Stone
The exhibition brings together a body of work conceived from mineral materials found along the route, reflecting on cultural and sensitive relationships with the earth and ways of inhabiting the world. The result of three months of research between Portugal and Morocco, the works were made with minerals and organic materials collected along the way, exploring the earth as a symbolic, tactile and cultural space. At this stage of her research, the artist proposes displacement not only as a geographical practice, but above all as an experience of the body and of living.
The work traverses the individual and social body, interweaving historical, material and cultural layers. From this listening to matter, the exhibition evokes notions of shelter, home and communal space, affirming the performative body as a place of encounter and otherness.
By Carla Santana
