Polo Cultural Gaivotas | Boavista

Seagulls in the courtyard

Cultural program that promotes the meeting of professional and emerging artists, both national and foreign
Schedule

Every year, from July to September, the courtyard of Polo Cultural Gaivotas | Boavista opens to offer artistic creations of diverse expressions and origins. Gaivotas no Pátio has sought to reaffirm itself as an access to presentation opportunity as a means of reducing under-representation in the performing arts.

In 2025, creations by women will be presented.

The idea is to give space to women creators in their exact role. The program includes creations by women, from the 19th century to the present day, free women and censored women, who create music, performance and cinema.

There is also the constant presence, in every edition, of the section In the Land of Cinema, curated by Os Filhos de Lumière.

No País do Cinema is an open-air film series on the theme of "Night at the Movies".
Curated by the Sons of Lumière, it brings together a series of films that allow us to reflect on and imagine, through cinema, the night, the unknown, the fears that the dark provokes, dreams, the feelings that are hidden or revealed, starting with the relationship we have or wish to have with our bodies, with others and with the world.

"When I walk among the graves in the Jewish cemetery in Lisbon, I recognize the names engraved in stone, as if I were in a village cemetery. During the Second World War, Lisbon was a passageway between Europe and the Americas for many refugees. Of the 50,000 to 200,000 people who passed through Lisbon at that time, only fifty stayed here. Among them were my grandparents."

Two lonely people meet by chance in the Helsinki nightlife and try to find the first, only and last love of their lives. But the path to that goal is full of obstacles: alcoholism, lost phone numbers, not knowing each other's names; and the general tendency of life to create obstacles in the path of those who seek happiness.

Vera and João make a pact never to separate, "for the world"

Vera and João are two young people who love each other but have time against them. Their desire to be together forces them, in a kind of childish game, to run away from their friends, from home, from people and from the world. Isolated in a forest, they get away from everything.
They make a pact never to be separated, "for the world". With each other, for each other, they are capable of anything. But one day Vera weakens and falls ill. If he can't leave her "for the world", he can't help but want to ask for help. His unshakeable faith in their love is about to break.
