Lisbon welcomes 400 international students and researchers

Lisbon City Council welcomed international students and researchers who have chosen the city to study, research and live in. The reception, part of the Study & Research in Lisbon project, was attended by representatives from various countries. The aim is to reinforce Lisbon's attractiveness as a global city of knowledge, open to diversity, innovation and international talent.

This year's edition registered 600 entries, which shows the consolidation of the growth of this initiative, which seeks to welcome those who choose Lisbon to further their academic and scientific training.

During the ceremony, participants were invited to visit the Study in Lisbon Lounge, a space created by the municipality to support international students and researchers, and also received a welcome kit with useful information about the city's universities and services.

"Lisbon is an open city, made up of diversity, innovation and creativity. It is in this spirit that we welcome students and researchers who have chosen our city not only as an academic or professional destination, but also as a place to live unique experiences and build bridges," said Diogo Moura, the councillor responsible for Economy and Innovation.

For many of the participants, Lisbon was chosen for the quality of its teaching and research institutions, but also for its cultural dimension, climate and quality of life. Carlo, a law student from Sardinia (Italy), said: "I chose Lisbon because I wanted to find a city where I felt at home." Anatália, from Slovakia, highlighted the proximity to the sea and the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the city, where she will be studying Economics and Management at ISCTE - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa.

This meeting is also an opportunity to listen to the new residents and better understand their experience in Lisbon, reinforcing the commitment to be an increasingly open capital for innovation that attracts and retains talent.
