Municipal telecare service reinforced in Lisbon
The reinforcement, explain the municipality's technicians, aims to "improve service to the elderly in situations of vulnerability, isolation and loneliness", as part of a strategy to support the city's senior population.
The S.O.S. Lisboa Line is open to citizens over 65 living in Lisbon who are in a situation of vulnerability or social isolation, as well as people with a disability or chronic illness with a proven incapacity of 60% or more.
The call for help in emergency situations is made via a panic button placed on a bracelet or necklace, connected to equipment installed in the beneficiary's home. Once activated, the call is forwarded to the Lisbon Fire Brigade (RSB), guaranteeing a response at home in between five and seven minutes.
The Municipal Teleassistance Service also includes a regular follow-up service, through telephone contacts with teams from the municipality, the RSB/NISAC and a network of volunteers, with the aim of combating loneliness and social isolation. Since 2025, CML has been congratulating beneficiaries on their birthdays, trying to prevent a day of special significance from being spent in solitude. The contact, according to the municipal service, has registered "a very positive and, in some cases, emotional response".
"The greatest sign of development for a city is the way we treat the most vulnerable," says the mayor of CML. Carlos Moedas adds that telecare is an example of investment in innovation and technological capacity at the service of longevity.
Vulnerable cases can also be reported via the RSBL/NISAC line and then forwarded to the city's network of social partners.
