New health innovation space opens in Rossio
The new hub - the result of a partnership between the municipality and AstraZeneca, Linde Saúde, the European Longevity Hub and the Sítio network - will develop technological solutions "that improve people's lives, especially with regard to the challenges of longevity and access to healthcare".
At the presentation, Carlos Moedas, mayor of Lisbon, explained the growth strategy for the hubs: "it's not just about decentralizing innovation in Lisbon" through the creation of new centers, such as in Alvalade, Saldanha or Beato, but also investing "in areas where we know we can be competitive, where there is real talent and high-quality companies that we can bring together in one place".
Health, he added, is not an area where the municipality has direct responsibility. But, "even without formal competence, a mayor always has a duty to look after the people of Lisbon". The municipal initiative Saíde 65+ Plan, he recalled, facilitated access to health and contributed to disease prevention by offering a range of free health services.
