1.1st Phase - Works inside the tunnel
From April 14, 2026: total closure of the tunnel for 10 months, with traffic guaranteed on the surface.
The closure of the tunnel will make it possible to carry out the work in completely safe conditions, but it will cause an increase in the volume of traffic on Avenida João XXI (traffic and workers).
The Temporary Signage Plan (PST) planned for this phase includes the reprogramming of traffic light systems along Avenida João XXI and its intersections, as well as the implementation of a wide range of signs to guide and direct traffic affected by the tunnel closure.
Traffic restrictions
- Total closure of the tunnel (both directions)
- Conditioning is limited to the inside of the tunnel
- Circulation ensured by surface roads

Reopening the tunnel
Work on the 2nd phase will have an impact on traffic on Avenida de Roma, with effects on its surroundings, particularly in terms of commerce, housing and services.
