Marvila-Beato plan under public discussion
The guided tour covered ten locations in the intervention area, with a territorial framework based on references such as Calçada do Duque de Lafões, Estrada de Marvila, Árvore da Borracha, Pátio do Marialva, Mirante, Azinhaga dos Alfinetes, Parque Marquês de Abrantes (North and South), Azinhaga da Salgada and Bairro da Madre de Deus.
The design team presented the main proposals and answered questions from the participants, highlighting the covering of the Northern Line as a solution to overcome the current urban barrier and create new pedestrian links, including a viewpoint overlooking the River Tagus.
The proposal also envisages strengthening the permeability of the territory, with new routes and passageways that bring the upper part of Marvila closer to the riverside front, as well as the implementation of a route planned in the PDM (Municipal Master Plan) since 2012, aimed at improving local mobility and integrating public transport solutions.
In terms of the landscape, the preservation and maintenance of all the trees was confirmed, especially the cypresses and rubber trees currently present on the site.
The guided tour ended in the Madre de Deus neighborhood, where the proposal for a new gateway to the park was presented, with equipment areas and a continuous square connected to the green space.
This intervention includes housing, commerce, services and social facilities and circulation open to the public, reinforcing the connection between Marvila and Beato.
The visit was part of the ongoing participatory process, which foresees further moments of clarification and input on the future development of this area of the city.
